William Durward Ringo

William Durward Ringo William Durward Ringo, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2005 in Oakland California, after a short illness. Services will be at 11:30 AM Wednesday, September 21, at Central Presbyterian Church in Woodway with Dr. Rebecca Whitaker officiating. Burial will be at Waco Memorial North. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 20, from 6 to 9:00 PM at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque. Dur was born July 11, 1928 to Nona Belle and Samuel Silas Ringo in Hillsboro, Texas. The family moved to Waco when he was three years old. He attended Waco High School, graduating in 1946. He joined the U.S. Army and was discharged in 1952. Dur married Betty Lou Lake in 1954 in Waco. Children of this union are Kent, born in 1957 and Kim, born in 1961. After the service, Dur went to work for the McLennan County Map Department as a draftsman. He was then hired by the City of Waco in the Planning Department. He retired in 1991 after 35 years as the Director of Planning for the City of Waco. After retirement, Dur enjoyed gardening, playing golf, traveling, and all sports. He was preceded him in death by his parents and sister Marzell. Survivors include Betty, his wife of 51 years; son, Kent and wife, Linda of Robinson; daughter, Kim of Lincoln, Nebraska and grandchildren Robert, and Ryan Ringo of Robinson. Pallbearers will be Robert Ringo, Ryan Ringo, Steve Davis, Phil Davis, Willie Martinez, and Bill Deviney. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Sewells, Les Fissler, Ralph White, Nick Klaras, Charlie Moore, Lyndon Olsen Sr., Lyndon Olsen Jr. Charles Olsen, Mike Muhlman, James Grundy, Ray Torres, Terry Flowers, Joe Flores, and Dr. Jackson Walker. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Alta Bates Summitt Medical Center in Oakland, California, to Dr. Fred Herskowitz and all the ICU 5 staff, and Grant Miller-John Cox Mortuary for their caring and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Central Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 9191 Woodway Dr., Waco, Texas 76702.
