William J. "Bill" Cox, Jr. May 3, 1930 - February 2, 2008 William J. "Bill" Cox, Jr. entered into rest on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at home surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 5 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Dr. Bruce Cresson officiating. Bill was born in Malvern, AR on May 3, 1930 to William Joel Cox, Sr. and Bobry Murl Helm Cox. Upon graduation from Hope High School, Hope, AR; he attended Baylor University and served in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, Bill was stationed in Kansas, New Mexico, Maryland, Texas and Korea as part of the 5th Air Force, 3rd Bomb Group. After an honorable discharge from service, Bill returned to Hope, to marry Carol I. "Jean" Cox at the First Baptist Church. Once finishing his BBA at Baylor, Bill continued his career with the Federal government. This career would span the next 37 years working as Postal Systems Examiner and Manager of the Main Post Office, Waco, TX. Bill is survived by his wife: Jean; son: Wm. J. Cox, III and wife Tami of Waco; and daughter: Barbara Cox Maley and husband Sam of Coppell, TX. Bill is reunited in Heaven with his parents and infant daughter, Carolinda. While Joel and Barbara were growing up, Bill was active with Columbus Avenue Baptist Church CABC, the Boy Scouts, and the Lee Lockwood Masons. As a family, many happy hours were spent fishing and camping on the Colorado River. Following retirement, Bill enjoyed daily visits to the Sul Ross Retirement Center, weekly CABC Sanctuary Bible Study classes and Senior Kiwanis meetings, monthly Waco Family Y Swim Class luncheons and periodic trips with friends and family. The family would like to recognize and give special thanks to their friends, Texas Oncology and Providence Hospice for their care and attention during Bill's courageous battle with cancer.
