William Marcus Dollar

December 16, 1945 — February 4, 2022

William “Marcus” Dollar, age 76, man of God, devoted husband, loving father, gentle grandfather, beloved brother, and storyteller extraordinaire, left his earthly life on Friday, February 4, 2022, to walk with his heavenly Father. His story is one of a man well-loved and a life well-lived. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, February 17, at Carrollton Church of the Nazarene. Visitation will be at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home Wednesday, February 16, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Graveside services will take place at 2 pm, March 2, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Marcus was born in Durant, Oklahoma, to Clarence Howard Dollar and Ivy Joy Dollar on December 16, 1945. Devout Christians, Clarence and Joy taught Marcus to know and love his Lord and Savior from a young age and he continued to walk with Him in faith his entire life. The family moved from Durant to Denison, Texas. He graduated from Denison High School in 1963. In September of that same year, Marcus achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, boy scouting’s highest attainable award. Marcus received his undergraduate degree in English and finance from Southeastern Oklahoma University and got his master’s degree in public administration from North Texas State University. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Marcus was married to Sharon Kay Freeman in 1967 and together they had two daughters, Larissa Michelle and Marcy Christen. In 1988, he married Linda Hoeldtke Parker gained 3 bonus children, Jeff, Kathy and Debbie. For 30 years, Marcus was a proud member of the Dallas Fire Department, serving as a building inspector and arson investigator. He attained the rank of Captain before retiring in 2002. Marcus was beloved by his community and a very devout Christian. He poured himself into every church he was part of, faithfully working to serve the kingdom of God and to support his brothers and sisters in Christ. Besides watching his grandchildren grow, Marcus loved traveling, studying biblical history and eating Hot Tamales and conquering puzzles. In addition to his parents, Marcus was preceded in death by his sister, Clarie Cummings; and two brothers, Charles Lane and Jimmy Bruce. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda; his two daughters, Larissa Kyer and husband, Bruce, and Marcy Dollar; bonus children, Jeff Marlow and wife, Lisa, Kathy Marlow, and Debbie Vardeman and husband, Larry; 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; his sister, Margaret Helvey, and husband, Bill; brother, John Clay Dollar and wife, Mary; and numerous nieces and nephews.
