William Scott Johnson April 9, 1952 - July 13, 2008 Long time Waco resident, William Scott Johnson, most recently of Deerfield Beach, FL passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Su Milam officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Scott was born April 9, 1952 in Waco, Texas to Jesse N. Johnson and Bessie Byrd Lester Johnson. He attended Waco schools and was a proud member of the Richfield High School class of 1970. After graduating from East Texas State University, Scott returned to Waco where he was employed by L.L. Sams for a number of years before beginning his own business in architectural design. He was a truly gifted designer whose creativity and meticulous attention to detail are clearly evident in the many houses he designed and built here in Waco as well as in Florida. Scott was a friend to all and was known for his fun, easy going manner and great sense of humor. He will also be remembered for his intense love of Chevrolet El Caminos. Unfortunately, his brilliance as a designer and his bright personality were sometimes overshadowed by a lengthy struggle against depression, especially in his final years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Giles Lester Johnson. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Cate Shipley and her husband, Ryan, of Nashville, TN; a sister, Elaine Karban and her husband, Jim, of Waco; a nephew and namesake, Scott Karban, and niece, Laura Karban, both of Waco. Pallbearers are Ryan Shipley, Daniel Hurtado, Weldon Mahan, David Kidwell, Scott Karban and Kevin Reese. Memorials may be made to Austin Avenue United Methodist Church, St. Louis Catholic School or to a charity of choice.
