William Bryant Warren April 2, 1932 - May 23, 2013 William Bill Warren of Waco passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013. Chapel Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with VFW Chaplain Ken Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Old Rock Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.Monday, May 27, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. William was born April 2, 1932 in Shelbyville, Tennessee to Eules and Myrtle Lee Warren. He retired from the U S Army, after.23 years of service. Retiring with the rank of Command Sgt Major. After retirement he owned and operated Warren Economy Engraving. William was drafted into the U.S. Army June 21, 1953; graduated from Basic Training and from Leadership School in the top 10, Corporal, all at Ft. Jackson, SC. He was assigned Instructor, Basic Training, in 1954 and promoted to Sgt., also at Ft. Jackson, SC and was honorably discharged June 20, 1955. William re-enlisted in July 1955 and was assigned to Ft. Hood, TX. In January, 1956, he moved to Ft. Polk, LA with 1st Armored Div. He received orders for Korea in September, 1956, and then returned to Ft. Bragg, NC in December, 1957. Orders for Germany were issued October, 1960; he returned to Ft. Knox, KT in October, 1961;then back to Germany in October, 1962; returned to Ft.Hood January, 1965. He was promoted to Sgt. First Class January, 1966 and received orders for Vietnam in September 1966; he returned to Temple in October 1967, as a recruiter. In June, 1972, he was promoted to Master Sgt.; moved to Shreveport, LA as Area Commander, and back to Waco in June, 1974, as Area Commander. In October, 1975, he made the Sgt. Major List, and assumed duties of SGM on January, 1976, in Dallas. He assumed duties of SGM, San Antonio, TX., in July, 1976 and retired as Command Sgt. Major in April, 1977. Awards include: Top Recruiter Soldier of the Year 1967-68; Top Station 1967-68-69-70-71-72, Temple; Top Area 1972-73-74, Shreveport; Top Area 1974-75, Waco; ARCM, MSM, Gold Badge. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ada Marie Warren; daughter, Ramona Warren; step-daughers, Bonnie and Faye; and step-sons, AC, and Joe. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Fernandez, and husband, Joe, of Waco, TX, son, William Bryant Warren, Jr. and wife, Linda, of Temple, TX; grandchildren, Crystal, Tiffany, Christopher, Gail, JB, Neal, Curtis, Foy, Sharon and Sondra; 20 great grandchildren; sister, Jane Housch; several nieces and nephews; and longtime special friend, Louise Lay of Dallas, TX. Pallbearers are Joe Fernandez, Neal Shotwell, Christopher Renfrow, Ken Weaver, Larry Bethea and Roger Settleman.
