Wynnie Dickerson Affleck

February 9, 1911 — October 8, 2004

AFFLECK, WYNNIE Wynnie Dickerson Affleck passed away peacefully at a local hospital on Friday, October 8, 2004 at the age of 93. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 15, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Bert Affleck, her nephew, officiating. A reception will follow the service at the funeral home garden room. Mrs. Affleck was born on February 9, 1911 in Sherman, Texas. Her parents were Evangeline Box and Malcolm C. Dickerson. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1929 and attended secretarial school in Dallas. She married Robert Bob Affleck in 1938 in Childress, Texas. She worked for the Quartermaster in Ft. Worth during WWII while her husband was in the Navy. In 1945, after World War II, Wynnie and Bob moved to Waco and raised two daughters. For over 50 years, Wynnie Affleck was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church. She worked tirelessly in the Christian Education department, the Berean Bible class and the Women’s Association. She led book studies and arranged flowers for services in the church. In addition, she was a member of the Galaxy Club, the Garden Study Club, and was an accomplished seamstress. Crestview Elementary PTA honored her with the Texas Life Membership in recognition of her volunteer efforts for education. She was a committed member of the community and was one of the first Meals on Wheels volunteers. Through the years she gave her time, energy and boundless enthusiasm to any project that provided help for others. She touched the lives of all who knew her. Her husband preceded her in death after 58 years of marriage. Her parents and her brother also preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughters, Bobbie Affleck of Waco and Jeanne Walker and husband, David of Ennis. Her grandsons and their families, Brian Walker and Bert and Hollye Walker, were the joy of her life. Her great grandson, Luke Walker, was able to meet his Mimi this summer at the age of 6 weeks. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Central Texas Ministry---Meals on Wheels, the Make A Wish Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
